Acer inaugurates a global R&D center, dubbed Acer Intellectual, in Chongqing, China, according to a July 18, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. With initial investment expected to reach US$4 million, Acer Intellectual is projected to focus on Smartphone and tablet PC-related software R&D. It is reported that Acer Intellectual has cooperated with China Mobile on service and application software development for mobile e-commerce and mobile e-payment. Acer Intellectual is Acer's fourth R&D center, the three other centers are located in Taipei, Shanghai, and Beijing.
